Mārtiņš Sesks becomes the first ever Latvian Junior WRC winner in Rally Estonia and overall leader of the Junior World Rally Championship

The rising Latvian motorsport star, rally pilot Martiņš Sesks and his co-driver Renārs Francis resumed their Junior World Rally Championship season on “Rally Estonia” this weekend, reaching the top three in the first stage, which they did not leave until the end of the weekend.

The crew of Sesks/ Francis finished the first day of the rally in second place. On Sunday they took the advantage of competitor’s mistakes and overtook the lead, thus winning in Estonia. Sesks thus not only won his first victory at the Junior World Rally Championship (JWRC), but also became the first Latvian motorist to succeed in Junior WRC. The victory in Estonia has allowed Mārtiņš Sesks to become the overall leader of the Junior World Rally Championship.

“It is an incredible feeling to become the first ever Latvian Junior WRC winner on Rally Estonia! I am very happy for this weekend. But it is just a halfway to what I am aiming for in long-term. Many thanks to everyone involved in our project not only at this moment, but when it was far from a dream-come-true. There are still many things to improve. I am very much looking forward to continue the hard work and reach for the best results possible,” Mārtiņš Sesks shares his first emotions after win.

“This was a drivers rally. I had to be very tactical to see, where to drive fast and were to save the car to make it to the finish. Not a single point was earned here without a heavy sweat. All of the junior guys were highly motivated and enthusiastic to win.  Every junior was ready to tear off his shirt to earn maximum of points. Roads were fast and complicated, unfortunately also damaging to car. Our tactics to choose our own rhythm, drive safe and steady paid off,” comments rally pilot Martiņš Sesks.

Whether Martiņš Sesks will succeed in becoming the season’s champion will be known by the end of autumn, when the next Junior WRC stage will take place in Sardinia from October 8-11, and the season will end in Belgium on November 19-22.
