On March 8 Martiņš Sesks/Renars Francis completed individual tests near Braga, Portugal and will take part in the first round of this year’s European Rally Championship (ERC) series Rally Serras de Fafe e Felgueiras (11-13 March).
The crew from Liepaja will drive Skoda Fabia R4, the Rally2-Kit class car they made a great debut in Rally Sarma earlier this year. The crew entered the RC 2 class with 37competing cars. In this class you can find drivers with both powerful Rally 2 or R5 group cars and with Rally 2-Kit cars. There are five crews driving Rally 2-Kit cars identical to Sesks/Francis. A total of 54 crews are registered for the event. Over the two days of the event, the competitors will complete 17 special stages covering a total distance of 198 kilometres.
Mārtiņš Sesks: “This time the preparation for the first stage of the ERC was completely different – the only thoughts we had were how to help Ukraine before we leave. The Russian invasion of Ukraine shocked us all, it is unbelievable and devastating. And I truly admire and appreciate the efforts of my partners and Latvian motorsport community who are actively involved in organising humanitarian and defence aid for Ukraine. It’s not easy to go to the race either, because we will start the season without our teammates from Ukraine. We will fight not only for our result, but also for our teammates who have to fight for real war in Ukraine.”
Sesks/Francis are part of the Lithuanian-based Proracing Rally team. There will be live broadcast of ERC stages on www.wrcplus.com and TV6 (Latvia). On the ERC calendar Rally Serras de Fafe e Felgueiras is followed by Rally Azores (26-27 March).
